What is the difference between private collectors and public drop-off locations?

Public drop-off points

These are communal collection points run by an administrator who collects specific types of waste for recycling. The locations are displayed on our map to allow communities to recycle together. Search for your nearest drop-off point, check the kind of waste accepted there and the opening times, and take your hard-to-recycle waste to the location.

Private collectors

Private collectors are also registered on specific programs and usually gather waste accumulated at home. Please note that private collection programs may have enrollment limits; if a program is full, you will be added to a waitlist. The steps to send TerraCycle the waste remain the same for private collectors and public drop-off point administrators, but those running public schemes will be able to send more waste. Remember, not only will you have a more significant impact on the environment by preventing more waste from going to landfills, but you will also earn more TerraCycle points that can be redeemed into charity donations for non-profit organizations.
